Thanks Kwaku! Kerouac is definitely worth the read, but is also, like I wrote, someone who you read differently depending on where you are in life. Appreciate the subscribe and the kind words!

Haven’t read Kerouac but really enjoyed your reflection on his life and works and how your own journey and life stage alters the value you gain from it.

Interesting reflection, that pursuing freedom didn't lead to freedom in the end. It reminds me of a writer (Madeleine L'Engle?? Dorothy L. Sayers??) saying that discipline--of the sonnet form, of the ballet dancer, etc--is what brings freedom--to communicate beauty, to leap amd soar, etc.

That's a nice quote - I hadn't heard it - but I agree. I think the beatnik brand of freedom was much less "free" than is often portrayed.
